1. The Overlap Bottleneck (Five-Word Traps)

A constructor will frequently include five or six words that match a superficial category. For instance, you might see:

$$\text{SOCCER, TENNIS, BASEBALL, GOLF, CRICKET}$$

All five are sports. If you submit Soccer, Tennis, Baseball, Golf, you risk wasting a guess because Cricket might be the intended sport, while Golf belongs to a group like "Words in the NATO phonetic alphabet" (Golf, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot).

  • The Rule of Patience: Never lock in a four-word set if five words on the board qualify. Leave that theme alone and search for an isolated category with exactly four clear candidates.
